It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Ruby Burton, 80 years, on September 1, 2018 at Pioneer Manor, Sudbury. Beloved wife of Robert “Terry” Burton. Loving mother of Debbie (John) Godwin, Darlene (Mark) Bowcott, Doug (Diane) Heckman, David (Judy) Heckman, Dale (Maxine) Heckman and step-children Robert (Niki) Burton and Tracy (Bill) Campbell. Cherished grandmother of 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings Les (Ann) Knutson, Dennis (Hilary) Knutson, Eileen (Ian) Gray, Marlene Daley, and Aunt Vi and Aunt Bonnie. She will be sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and the Burton family. Ruby also leaves many friends in Nova Scotia and Ontario. She worked cleaning dorms at McMaster University for over 30 years until her retirement. The students all treated her like she was their mother. Some of her favourite pastimes included knitting, crocheting, swimming, dancing, playing cards and especially spending time with her family. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Ruby’s life will be held at the United Pentecostal Church, 2080 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Church after 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory directly to Canadian Mental Health Association.
