Fournier, Sydney (Syd)

In loving memory of Sydney (Syd) Fournier, who passed away January 04, 2022 at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, British Columbia following a heart attack on Christmas day.

Syd will be sadly missed by his loving wife Marlene (nee McLaughlin), his son Bryan, daughter Julie (Alfred Leake), grandson James Wright, sisters Margaret Hurme (Richard predeceased), Joan Lalonde (Louis) and brothers Harold (Pauline), Lindsay (Sandra), Randy (Sandra predeceased) and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Carolyn Mellaney (John predeceased) brothers Terry (Ellen), Cliff (Ethel), Ellard (Shirley), and his parents Albert and Ellen (nee Smith) Fournier.  Also left to share in this sadness are sister-in-law Patsy Dupuis (Jean-Paul), brothers-in-law Bob (Maxine) McLaughlin, Rick (Simone) McLaughlin, Dan McLaughlin, Ken (Dianne) McLaughlin. Predeceased by mother and father in-law Gertrude and Emmett McLaughlin, special uncle and aunt Henry and Aline Lavigne, and sister-in-law Bernice Bernard.

Syd was born, grew up and raised his family in Coniston, Ontario. He graduated from Nickel District Collegiate in 1969 and later in life went back to school and graduated from the Gerontology program at Cambrian College.  Syd lovingly referred to his family as “The Berserks” as they embarked on many summer vacations, road-trips, and adventures. Syd enjoyed playing and coaching hockey, playing blooper ball, bowling and being close to his family and friends in his home-town. Syd was a kind and compassionate man, and took the time to care for neighbours, friends and family. Syd brought a sense of humour and love to everything he did, making connections and special memories with his dad-jokes, classic sayings, and ever elaborate Halloween and Christmas decorations. Syd loved listening to "the oldies" 60's rock and roll, and was rarely seen without a baseball cap, a pair of work gloves and a to-do list ready to help.  Syd was a dedicated and lifelong fan of the Chicago Blackhawks, Sudbury Wolves, and Vancouver Giants. Syd loved his four-legged friends too, and could be found handing out treats and cuddles to the neighbourhood dogs. Syd was a driver for Greyhound bus lines and retired with over 31 years of dedicated service.  Sydney and Marlene moved to Port Coquitlam, BC in 2014 to be close to their grandson, James.  Whether Syd was in Coniston, Port Coquitlam or on the road, he was always eager to lend a helping hand and he will be missed by many in both communities. Please join us in remembering Syd’s life, laughter, and kind-heart on Friday July 22, 2022 with a Funeral Mass at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 30 Cedar St., Coniston at 11:00 a.m. Internment at St John's Cemetery in Garson.  A Celebration of Syd’s Life to follow at the Colonial Inn, 28 Cedar St.,  Coniston, at 12:00 noon.
