Piela, Michael

On Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022, Michael Joseph Piela passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness. Michael was born on July 12, 1950 to Jackie (nee Forest) and Chester Piela, both predeceased.  Michael married Melinda “Mickey” (nee Oshell) in Sudbury in 1976.  Michael loved his children, Joshua (Mara Storey) and Alexandra (Robert Bratina) very much. He was delighted by his grandson, Marek Bratina.

Michael was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father- in-law Yolanda and Leo Oshell, with whom he had a wonderful relationship.  He is survived by sisters- in-law and brothers-in-law: Madeleine (Bill Sutton), Michael (Lesia Sus) and Maureen (Murray Low, predeceased).  He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Michael was an avid photographer and the owner of Photo World in downtown Sudbury.  He loved the outdoors and enjoyed the family cottage on Lake Huron, as well as exploring the waters of Georgian Bay in his boat.  He was an excellent cook and created many delicious meals for family and friends.  He was passionate about his cars and was a great fan of Formula One racing.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Pioneer Manor, Cranberry Place, for their care over the past five years.  As well, our gratitude to Five South, HSN, for their professionalism and attentiveness.  Your care and concern will not be forgotten. Cremation has taken place.  At the family's request, there will be no visitation or service.  Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

  4. Josh, I was so sorry to read of your father’s passing. You and your father brought to life thousands of pictures for me. In particular I remember rushing in on June 16, 2006 to have a picture of my mother printed. My family knew that I would have the perfect picture as Photo World created so many memories for us.
