February 14, 1951- September 20, 2023
It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of their beloved Gunther at the age of 72. A beautiful soul, he left our world peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 20, 2023. His passing comes after a long battle with COPD which he fought fiercely and courageously until the very end.
Gunther has reunited now with his best friend and the love of his life, his dear wife of over 44 years, the late Jeanne Grabowski. Jeanne passed away earlier this year and the family has found comfort that the two are now together again.
Gunther was born in Germany to parents Agness and Max Grabowski (both predeceased). The family settled here in Canada when Gunther was just a young boy. Throughout his life he was very close to his siblings’; predeceased by his sister Mary (survived by George); survived by sisters’ Gerty (Paul), Margaret (Roland), Judy (Dan), and brother’s Ralph (Pauline), and Edward. With his wife Jeanne by his side his family grew to include daughter’s Kimberly (Adam), Rachelle, Pauline (Ralph), and Helene. His family was blessed and extended even more with the addition of his grandchildren; Brayden, Austin, Amon, Levi and Max. Gunther adored and provided for his family with great pride. For decades he worked hard as a welder and eventually ended his career in 2004 as a welding supervisor for Noront Steel. Gunther will be dearly missed and remembered warmly by all members of his family including his nieces, nephew, extended family; as well as, by many friends. He had a brilliant mind with so many creative talents including visual arts, woodworking, guitar playing and incredible culinary skills, just to name a few. He was a curious, compassionate, and social individual who made friends with everyone he met. He also had a great sense of humour, a kind smile and an infectious laugh. He will be greatly missed by many! May he rest in peace!
We would like to take this time to thank the staff at Extendicare York for the support and care he received in his final weeks; as well as, the incredible staff on the 6th floor/South Tower of HSN. You have all gotten to know and care for him a great deal in recent years. We appreciate everything you did for our beloved Gunther (Gunner) and send much gratitude and respect to all of you for your difficult jobs and for going above and beyond so often. You know who you are! May God Bless!
In keeping with Gunther’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral services. A small private gathering will be organized for close friends and family at a later date. Donations can be made to the Canadian Lung association.
