Deanna Mary Miller, on her own terms, in her own way, closed her circle of life on Friday October 27th, 2023. She was surrounded by love.
Deanna was born on October 25th, 1938. First child of Peter and Myrtle Miller (nee Belter) both predeceased. She was survived by her daughters Leslie Menard (Don), Lisa Teske (Tom). Siblings Landa Sweet (Sergio), Ann O’Shell (Ron) and Blaine Miller. Sister-in-law Leona Dawe (Norm-predeceased).
Deanna was proud Gramma ‘D’ to Brock Menard, Mitchell Menard (Maddee Partridge), Shannon Teske (Lance Bartlett), Sara Menard (Seamus Blakelock), Scott Teske (Stephanie Borsi). She loved being a Gramma.
Very special Auntie ‘D’ to Robert Dawe, Sean Sweet (Tomoka), Lori-Ann Poirier (Glenn), Korena O’Shell (Don). Friend of Deanna and father of her daughters, Bob Sabourin (pre-deceased).
Growing up in Onaping Falls, Deanna enjoyed curling, x-country skiing, golf, bridge and rummoli with friends as well summers at her parent’s camp on Windy Lake. Deanna attended Teachers College after high school and taught elementary school for many years. She was an entrepreneur and event planner, joint owner in The Tutoring Center and founding partner in The Iron Broom Golf and Curling Event both of which she was very proud.
Later, Deanna returned to Levack District High School taking business/computer courses, alongside her daughters and then additional courses at Cambrian College. Impressive! She then began her new career with TD Canada Trust until her retirement in 2003. In her retirement Deanna volunteered at the YMCA-Older Adult Center and Inner-City Home of Sudbury, where she developed some very special friendships with her fellow volunteers. She was passionate about these programs. Heartfelt thank you to Roly and Mary Varieur for your love and support of our Mom.
She adored spending time with family in Barrie and on Manitoulin Island, shopping, antiquing, cooking, playing cards (she had a competitive streak). She was fun and up for anything. She was funny and loved a road trip (packing weeks in advance).
Deanna was an incredible seamstress, knitter and loved to cook and read. She was a courageous, fiercely independent woman with an attention to detail.
She had a true appreciation for a nice glass of white wine which she enjoyed while watching curling, her favorite cooking shows, playing cards or creating new recipes.
Deanna will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
As we close this chapter and say goodbye to our Mom we would like to thank the entire team of Doctors, Nurses, PSWs and Housekeeping Services of the Respiratory Care Unit, 6th Floor Health Sciences North.
A Special thank you to Dr. Paul Gibb, Dr. Jo-Anne Clarke (Geriatric Clinic) and Dr. Izabeau Trottier for the amazing compassionate care of our Mom as well as the support you gave us through these very difficult days.
Our tiny Mom has left a huge heart print on all who had the privilege of knowing her and spending time, Leslie, Lisa, and Families
