January 21, 2024 (66 yrs.)
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Gaëtan “Gates” Perreault announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at the age of 66, surrounded by his loving family at Maison McCulloch Hospice.
At the tender age of 16, Gates met the love of his life, a high school sweetheart who became his best friend, soul mate, and the world's best husband. Their journey together spanned 50 years, 48 of which were spent in the sacred bond of marriage. Gates held family in the highest regard, and his enduring love for his wife formed the foundation of a remarkable partnership.
A devoted father, Gates took immense pride in the accomplishments of his children, Jennifer (Beaudry) and the late Jeffrey “Jeff” (1981-2022), who valiantly fought a battle with ALS. Gates was equally proud of his son-in-law, Eric Beaudry, and daughter-in-law, Dr. Brittney Parlett Perreault. His grandchildren Nicolas, and Gabrielle, were the lights of his life, his pride, and joy—cherished jewels that brought immeasurable happiness to his heart. In addition to his immediate family, Gates leaves behind his grand fur-babies, “Harvey” and “Blue” who brought additional joy to his life.
He leaves a profound void in the heart of his mother, Huguette Perreault (née Lalonde), and mother-in-law Jeannine Desrochers (née Plante) and reunites with his predeceased father, Jean-Baptiste Perreault (2009) and father-in-law André “Joe” Desrochers (2003). Gates is survived by his siblings Louise (John) Marcotte, Donald "Don" (Sandy Preston) Perreault, Diane (Jacques) Grylls, and sister-in-law Pierrette (Ken) Desloges. He will be dearly missed not only by his immediate family but also by his extended family including nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of relatives and friends who shared his love and warmth.
Gates dedicated 37 years of his professional career at Vale (Inco) as a Power Engineer, later founding his own consulting company, P.E.S. Power Engineering Services Inc. Even after his retirement, he continued to exhibit a passion for his work and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with students at Cambrian College as a professor in the Power Engineering program. He continued consulting and working on many projects until he was diagnosed with cancer, a battle he faced with strength and grace.
Known for his infectious smile and love of laughter, Gates could light up any room with his warm presence. A true jokester, he had a knack for bringing joy to those around him. Gates was a caring and compassionate soul, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need.
Gates discovered comfort in the artistry of woodworking, the vast expanse of the great outdoors, and the serene waters of Windy Lake. A cherished haven for him was the welcoming dock at his home, where both humans and animals alike were embraced. Surrounded by the splendor of nature, he delighted in the regular visits from the resident eagles, hawks, loons, beavers, bears, deers, moose, rabbits and many more….
One of his fondest rituals was preparing to navigate the waters of Windy Lake, accompanied by the exhilarating notes of "Danger Zone," his favorite boating anthem. The launch of the ride, marked by the resounding blast of the song, remains a cherished and vibrant memory etched in our hearts.
As we bid farewell to Gates, let us remember his infectious laughter, caring spirit, and the enduring love he shared with family and friends. In his own words, "Cheers! See you all on the dock." Gates Perreault's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
The Perreault family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated nurses at the Shirley and Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre, as Gate’s would say “Gates’ Angels”. We would also like to extend our thanks to Dr. Guy Desmarais, Dr. P. Jani, Dr. D. Falk and Dr. G. Mongeon for their unwavering care and compassion over the past few years. Additionally, our sincere appreciation goes to the nurses and care team at Maison McCulloch for their exceptional support during Gates' final days.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A private celebration of life, exclusively for the immediate family, will take place at a later date
For those inclined, online donations to the Shirley and Jim Fielding Northeast Cancer Centre https://hsnsudbury.ca/en/Services-and-Specialties/Cancer-Care or Maison McCulloch Hospice https://maisonsudburyhospice.org/ would be deeply appreciated in honor of Gaëtan “Gates” Perreault's memory.

Dear Joanne,
It is with a heavy heart that I receive this terrible news. Remembering back with all the wonderful discussions and appointments together we shared during our ALS journey with our 2 boys. The absolute most kindest individual I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I have never heard him say a negative word about anyone.
He touched the lives of so many and now he is sitting along side of his wonderful boy.
Rest In Peace my dear friend. See you again I’m sure.
God Bless.

Dearest Joanne, and family,
I am extremely saddened to hear the news of Gates passing. He was as genuine as it gets, and I really enjoyed the conversations and the checking in within our families as we had an unfortunate bond of both our sons that battling ALS to the end. Gates was a gentleman and always had time to check in – always had the right words to say. He truly was a special wonderful man who I will always remember with a smile – a blessing to know him and his lovely wife Joanne. You are now reunited with your beloved son Jeff.
Rest in eternal peace my dear friend – you will be truly miss by so many ,

My condolences to his whole family. He was taken way too young. I was a student at Cambrian and he helped me tremendously to get my career started. He helped me with my resume and to get a placement because he believed in me. The only thing he wanted in return was for me to help someone down the road in return. I have a wonderful life/career and I really do believe it’s because of him. He made a huge impact on the course of my life and I won’t ever forget it.
