It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Anita Lovin on February 25, 2024, at the age of 80. She will be deeply missed by her loving partner Ron Pender. Anita was born in the Petsamo region of Finland to parents Gunnar and Jenny, both predeceased. The family moved to Canada in 1952 and Anita grew up on Ester Rd. among many other Finnish families.
Beloved mother of Maj-Lis Vettoretti (Dario), Katrina Toivonen (predeceased) and John Toivonen (Ginette). She was a fun loving and dedicated Mummu to Peter (Emma), Marissa, Keenan, Mikko and Jude. Anita leaves behind her much-loved siblings Ake Lovin (Carol) of Ottawa, Erik Lovin (Yuhua Li) of Sudbury and Liz Bivens (Rocky) of Hurds Lake. Cherished “Auntie” to many special nieces and nephews. She will be remembered fondly by many close friends.
Anita attended Teachers College in North Bay and enjoyed her teaching career with the Sudbury Board of Education as well as teaching Sunday School at St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church in Copper Cliff. Her patience and joy of teaching young children came naturally to her, and this was apparent in raising her own family. She enjoyed many activities together with her grandchildren. Anita was a proud founding member of the Sudbury Breast Cancer Support Group – Circle of Strength. In her retirement years, Anita had the opportunity to travel to many places around the world. She treasured memories from her trips, including several with her dear friend Norma.
Special thanks to Linda for many years of friendship, kindness and support to the family. Thank you to the Doctors, nurses and support staff at Health Sciences North for their care and compassion. Private interment at Civic Memorial at a later date. Donations may be made directly to the Northern Cancer Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
To John, Ginette and family,
So sorry for the loss of your beloved Anita. Keep your memories of Anita close to your heart to help with the grieving process.❤️

My beloved sister Anita – I hold you in my heart forever. You were the best sister and the “Rock” in our family. You took such good care of me and we loved traveling together every March Break. I miss you so much.
