Simms, Judith Linda “Judy”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Judith (Judy) Linda Simms after a short, hard fought battle with cancer on June 12, 2024 at the age of 74.  Judy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Grammie) and great-grandmother (Gramma Judy).

She is predeceased by the love of her life Roger, husband of 50 years and by her parents Lucien and Aileen (nee Furlong) Charron.  Loving sister to Deanna Pacaud (Howard) both predeceased, Joe (predeceased) and Doreen Jerome (Reg).

Mother to Laura-Lee MacLeod (Alex) and Patrick.  Grandmother to Ryan (Heidi), Cody and Emma, great-grandmother to Isabelle, Samantha and Connor.

Will be greatly missed by family and friends and especially her bestie, Paulette.

Judy was born and raised in Wahnapitae Ontario but spent many years of her life in Blind River before moving back to the Sudbury area.  She spent quite a few of those years providing food and beverages to golfers at Huron Pines Golf course.

Family was the most important thing in Judy’s life but her passion was baking.  Baking and cooking for her family was her favourite thing in the world to do but she also loved to share her many, many treats with others.  She made the “BEST” butter tarts but was also known for cookies, squares, cakes and pies, etc… but be careful, if you told her, you liked something you would end up with way more than you ever needed.  But you would take it because it would make her happy to give you something you loved to eat.

Judy also loved curling and gambling, but not necessarily in that order.  She watched all the events on tv but enjoyed going to live curling events to watch her favourite curlers.  She even went to Las Vegas for a curling event where she also got to partake in her other favourite sport…gambling.  Judy and Roger loved to go to Bay Mills in Michigan and she continued to go even after she lost her beloved partner.  You could always find her at her favourite “Life of Luxury” slot machine, “Far East Fortunes”.  So if you ever go to Bay Mills play $20 in her machine and maybe she will bring you luck.  Thank you to the staff at Bay Mills for always treating her so well and making her happy.  It was one of her favourite places to go.

A big thank you to all the doctors, nurses, psw’s and other staff at Health Sciences North and the Northeast Cancer Centre who helped take care of Judy during her battle, you were all amazing.  As per Judy’s wishes there will be no service or visitation.  Donations in her memory can be made directly to the Northeast Cancer Centre https://ncfsudbury and would be greatly appreciated by her family.
