McKay, Kyle M.

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our most beloved son Kyle Michael McKay of Hanmer, who died tragically on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at age 27.

Son of Richard (Michael) and Kim McKay of Hanmer, exceptionally loving brother of Chanelle McKay of Hanmer, cherished partner of Cassandra Giusti and amazing father figure of Amelia of Sudbury.  Survived by grandparents Richard (Everett) and Valerie McKay of Levack, grandparents Michel (predeceased 2016) and Diane Girard and friend Michel O’Bomsawin all of Chelmsford.  Great grandmother Vina Judd of Elliot Lake and great grandmother Claudette Joseph of Chelmsford.  Kyle will be sadly missed by his great childhood friend Justin Goudreault and close cousin Justin McKay.  Also missed by good friends/mentors Jean-Marc Valade and Michel O’Bomsawin as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cherished cousins.

For those that knew Kyle know how exceptionally gifted he was and a perfectionist in all he did.  His fascination for tinkering was well known, starting at a very young age.  Kyle would take apart his toys and inspect their functions with great detail.  His great uncle Claude would also drop off various old electronics for him to take apart, helping to quench his curiosity about how everything operated, then created his own systems with the parts.  Kyle graduated as a licensed Red Seal Mechanic at the young age of 23.  He shook hands on a $100 bet with his employer, at the time, that he would pass the exam on the first try... and pass he did!  He sincerely loved mechanics and electronics at all levels.  Early on Kyle developed a serious passion for Jeeps, making it his number one hobby over many years.  He was a Jack-of-all-trades, tackling many other trades like welding, plumbing, carpentry, etc. Kyle enjoyed the challenges of repairs and fabrications and gained satisfaction from all his successes.  No job was ever too big as he would spend long hours doing research to be able to complete the task.

All who met Kyle knew him, as some have generously stated, as being smart, amazing and with a heart of gold.  He was compassionate, loved by all and always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.  His humor and quick wit made time spent with him so memorable.  Children flocked to him because of the keen attention he gave to the young ones.  In his younger years, he’d let his grandfather Michel win a game of chess, now and then!

Kyle was in a good place in his life, being known for having a love for life.  He was a very happy individual, always ready with some sort of joke to tell, stories to share and/or something to show and teach you.  You’d often find him singing out loud to all his favorite tunes while working on some sort of project.  He also had a heartfelt respect for wildlife and nature, appreciating the sunrises and sunsets.  If he wasn’t out for a Jeep ride on the back roads, you’d find him feeding the songbirds and bunnies, fishing, hunting or hiking to enjoy the outdoors to its fullest.  Thus, Kyle had a spiritual side to him; he believed in the Creator and awaits the day God will resurrect him back to life.

The Family warmly invites you to join them for Kyle’s Celebration of Life, which will be held at the Cooperative Funeral Home in Chelmsford on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024 from 12 – 4pm, located at 4691 RR 15, Chelmsford, ON.  A special thanks goes to Bob’s Service Center of Coniston, Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services of Sudbury, Crocodile Printing and Signs of Sudbury and Cooperative Funeral Home of Chelmsford for their compassion and exceptional services.  Donations to Skills Competences Canada Ontario would be appreciated https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/12631.

  1. Indeed, Kyle was a very kind individual with a profound thirst for knowledge. As a student, he was very focused but also lighthearted, throwing the occasional joke to lighten the mood. Also, he was hard working and determined to reach his goals. Becoming a Red Seal mechanic at age 23 is quite an accomplishment and extremely rare yet he found a way to forge a path forward! Kyle, you certainly left your mark and have made this world a better place.
