Janis “John” Dreifelds

Janis (John) Dreifelds of Sudbury passed away peacefully at Maison McCulloch Hospice on December 20th, 2024 at the age of 81. He is survived by his loving wife, Madeleine (nee Lessard), son Andy (Lisa), and granddaughter Tori. Also survived by brother Juris (Ilse predeceased 2022), sister Ruta (Egils), and sister in law Mary. John was predeceased by his parents Voldemars and Zenta, and his brother Peter (1992).

John was born in Jelgava, Latvia, on September 24th, 1943. Due to the War, the family moved to Belgium, where he learned to speak French. They landed in Halifax in 1951, making their way to Kirkland Lake, Ontario and later to Toronto. He attended the University of Toronto and graduated as a Civil Engineer. Due to his work, he lived in many cities in Ontario over 40 years and retired from Tera North.

He will be missed by his many cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, and the Lessard family: Gilles predeceased (Lina), Lorraine (Roger predeceased), Louise (Jacques predeceased), and Nicole (Bob). I will always cherish our wonderful time spent together from playing links golf on the computer, you and Maddie coming to my hockey games, watching the Blue Jays World Series on the jumbotron at the Skydome in 93 to the many sleepover weekends in Pickering and Carrying Place. Uncle John has always meant the world to us. We love you and will miss you so much.
