Blais, Karlee

Karlee Blais passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 15, 2024, just 3 weeks shy of her 32nd birthday.

She leaves behind her daughter, Autym (11), the entire pickle industry, whose profits dropped immediately upon her passing and a whole lot of stuff. Stuff we have no idea what to do with. So, if you’re looking for Kinder Surprise toys, McDonalds toys, Brandt Peterbilt hats or schoolwork from the early 2000’s you should wait the appropriate amount of time and then get in touch with us.

Hockshop jokes aside, this is an obituary for a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a niece, a granddaughter, and a friend. Born on September 4, 1992, in Sudbury, to parents Roberta & Rick Reist and John & Tracy Blais, Karlee leaves behind a family and life partner who love her immensely.

Karlee was known for her lack of patience and not holding back her opinion. She was genuine to a fault and sugar coated nothing. She was fluent in sailor speak and wasn’t shy to use it, even in her final days. We’re positive this is why she loved working at Brandt Peterbilt, where she amassed a massive collection of their brand wear. Karlee went to work every day (thanks to Al for driving her) eager to “talk shop” with the guys and she convinced every patron to add a hat to their order. She spoke to her family endlessly about her colleagues and her boss JR, who all knew Karlee was a no-nonsense, get the work done kind of person.

She is survived by her beautiful daughter Autym, and the three sisters she indulged Randee (Richard) Gauthier, Carys Blais, Tina (Joe – d. 2023) Dore, as well as her partner Scott Waschulzik. She will be missed by her other siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Karlee leaves this world having watched every single tv show ever aired on Netflix and with a vast knowledge of raising animals which was one of her biggest passions, something she’s passed on to her daughter. Together they raised rats, amphibians of all kinds, birds, dogs, cats, fish and just recently a litter of squirrels. Karlee loved the spooky season, everything dipped in ranch dressing, a good hearty soup, cotton candy cookie dough blizzards (it’s as gross as it sounds), and anything collectible. She will be sorely missed by the food delivery community. Karlee loved trying new looks, always sporting a new hair colour; in her final days she joked that she was trying out Gpa’s look, and it saved her so much time in the shower.

Karlee lived the way she wanted to every day. She learned what she wanted to learn and loved who she wanted to love. Karlee is a reminder to always live the life you want to live and to never hold back. In her final days she wanted to make sure that all the women in her life knew to get regular checkups and screenings for cervical cancer, no matter how uncomfortable.

Following her wishes there will not be a service, but there will be a celebration of her life at the Adanac Chalet, 744 Beatrice Crescent, Sudbury, on Saturday, September 7 from 1-4pm, where all will be encouraged to write a note of farewell or their favourite memory and drop it into a pickle jar.

In lieu of flowers the family has set up a RESP for Karlee’s daughter Autym. Anyone wishing to donate to the fund can do so by e-transfer to tjcblais@hotmail.com or by contacting the same e-mail for details on sending a cheque. Karlee as you embark on this new journey may you be guided by your favourite aunt Gail and your alter ego Pierre. Rest in peace knowing your little chicken will be taken care of. May no one be bold enough to boop your nose in heaven.

  3. I first met Karlee when I moved to Sudbury and put feelers out for a dog sitter. She was so enthralled with my silly dogs, Gibbs and Abby. A few months later while working at Tim Hortons together we realized our paths had crossed earlier. I had so much fun working with her and loved her “take no Bs” attitude. Rest well, Karlee.
