Sunrise April 29, 1942 - Sunset September 7, 2022
Passed away at the Espanola Regional Hospital with loving family by her side.
Devoted mother of Tracy Tooley husband Clint. Cherished grandmother Nookimos to Fielding - the “apple of her eye”. Born in Espanola,ON to Vera Callaghan (nee Bateman), and John Gilmour Stepdaughter of James “Jim” Callaghan (all predeceased). Loving sister to Helen Aelick of Hanmer (Cliff predeceased), Graham Gilmour (Jane) of Font Hill, Bryan Gilmour (Joan) both predeceased), Special sister-in-law to Jim Brown of Calgary, Godmother to Lena Jacko of Manitouwadge. Will be missed by many extended family and friends. Special thank you to Tania, Sara and Lori at VON for their support, as well as Sharon at the Espanola Regional Hospital. She spoke so highly of you all.
She was a strong-willed woman that would think of others before her needs. She enjoyed to share long distance calls of funny stories with her sister Helen. We were so blessed by her love. She was an outstanding Mom and role model in her compassionate and feisty (akabull-headed) ways. Anything she put her mind to she excelled with ease. Health Care, Seamstress (in which she also taught students at Cambrian College), Carpenter to Knitting. She would take on upholstery projects, repair frozen pipes in the winter and the list goes on and on. (Ps if you are in need of wool - please contact me- there is enough to go around).
She held many positions in her career from Health Care Aide, Janitor, Matron Guard, to taxi driver. Proud member of Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation descendant of Chief George Abotossaway. Bestowed with the Anishnawbe name of Waabshki N’biish Mishkikii Kwe (White Water Medicine woman) of the Sturgeon Clan.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation Band Office Community Centre on Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Internment at the Mountainview Cemetery Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11 am.
If so desired, donations may be made in her memory directly to Manitoulin Pet Rescue. Link: https://m.facebook.com › groups Manitoulin Pet Rescue – Facebook.
Please accept our condolences. Living in Blind River, we aren’t as close to family as we would want. I’m sure you’ll miss Nancy more than words could ever express.
Cherish every memory.

To my family, especially Helen, Tracy and Dave, I have been thinking of you all a great deal in the past few days. I am sad I won’t have another opportunity to see my aunt Nancy again, but hope she is reunited with nan and my dad ❤️. I hope to see you all in the near future.
Tracy, I am so sorry you’ve lost your mother. There’s a saying… “your mother gives birth to you twice. Once when you are born, and again when she dies. I found that so accurate after losing my mom, and learning to move through life without her in it. I am wishing you peace and comfort.
Love you all, Karen
