In loving memory of Ted Durbacz, peacefully Tuesday June 7, 2016 at his residence with the love of his life and best friend at his side. Beloved husband of Caroline (Jaksic). ......You said to me Teddy (it was love at first sight)...... My love (and that you would be close and right by my side)..... My darling. Ted was a kind and gentle man with a big heart, he always had a bright beautiful smile for everyone he met. Ted worked for the city of Sudbury for 38 years and worked in aquatics for his entire career. His love for aquatics started when he became a lifeguard and spent many summers on the beaches of Ramsey Lake. He was heavily involved with the lifesaving society as a provincial leader and was recognized for his extensive experience and knowledge in both pool and waterfront safety. After retiring he became a chief auditor and traveled with his aquatic people doing what he loved to do best his legacy as a teacher, instructor, coach, volunteer and aquatic professional will live on. Son of the late Stanley and Jadwija Durbacz. Dear brother of Tony Durbacz (Carmen). Uncle to Stas and Lee Durbacz. Loving brother of sister Anna (Peter Trottier). Special brother in law to Michelle Jaksic. At Teds request there will be no visitation, private family burial and celebration of life will follow at a much later date. Donations to the Northeastern Cancer Center would be greatly appreciated.
Dear Caroline, It’s been many years since I last saw Teddy, but I was no less saddened to hear of his passing. He was a fine individual and as I recall more often than not the familiar voice of reason. You made a great pair and I will remember his hearty laugh and your wide smile. It was apparent you were each others’ soul mate. You complimented one another. May the love of friends and family comfort you through these difficult days. Warmest Regards, Paul

Carolyn, I still think of the glory days when we worked together and Teddy was my first real boss. A gentle soul who taught you not only to be a better person but to work at bringing out the best in others. He’s left a wonderful legacy, we’ll smile and laugh when we talk about him next time we meet. God bless you and your family during this difficult time.

I was saddened to hear of Ted’s passing. My deepest condolences to Caroline & Ted’s family. I was fortunate to have known Ted as a friend and team mate. I will always remember the many Friday nights with the Friday Knights; the late nights at Pat & Mario’s; the road trip to Detroit; the Capreol championships …. Those were the days my friend ….

Caroline & Family:
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. Teddy was such a good man and he had the biggest heart.
I worked with him on the Lifesaving Society Standard Committee. I remember the first time I meet him over 18 years ago at my first Aquatic PRO Conference. He made me feel welcome and introduced me to everyone. I will always remember his smile and laugh and will miss not getting all the e-cards from him on the holidays.
He will be missed in the Aquatic community but fondly remember.
My condolence and prayers go out to you and your family.

I knew Teddy through our work with the lifesaving society. I’ve heard it said that people don’t remember you for what you have but how you made them feel. Ted had the most beautiful gift of making the people around him feel loved and supported. I have only warm memories of my friend and send you sincerest condolences.

It was a shock to see Ted’s photo with his exuberant smile in the Obituary section of The Sudbury Star. Ted was in the first history class I taught at Sheridan Tech …..he was part of a wonderful group of students …………..and we always reconnected around those good memories. Later in my career it was a pleasure to contact Ted for questions regarding swimming and recreation. He always provided excellent service in his career at the City of Sudbury. It was helpful to have “a friend in high places”. I can only imagine how much Ted will be missed to his beloved wife and family. Rest in Peace, Dear Ted. God bless your family as they grieve. May the memories you shared with them always bring them joy.

Dear Caroline,
Our sincere condolences to you and the family on the loss of Teddy.
Because of Ted, I have many fond memories of the Friday Knights hockey and annual golf tourneys with Ted as my roomie. We will miss Ted but will treasure the fun and enjoyable times he gave us. We were fortunate to have Ted as a friend.
May you find comfort in your memories of Ted, and may he rest in peace in the knowing.

Dearest Caroline,
I am deeply saddened and sorry to hear of Ted’s passing. I have often thought of how he was instrumental in changing the direction of my life. I will always remember the good times at the Gatchell Pool and at the Sudbury Waterfront. He was able to bring out the best in people by seeing the potential in not only me, but in many of my co-workers. He was truly a leader who will be missed by us all. Ted, you are and always have been a special person. Rest in heaven my friend.

Caroline, I offer my sincerest condolences to you and Ted’s families.
Ted was truly special in that he had a beautiful heart and touched us all with his kindness. My thanks for him to allow me the wonderful times and memories with all at Gatchell Pool and Waterfont.

Ted was my hockey buddy – organizing ‘Friday nights’ for years, the oldtimers tournament to Detroit in ’94, The world championships in Quebec City in ’08 – a lot of fun, a man with a good heart, a love of life and a love of good friends. I’ll miss him. My Condolences to Caroline and all Ted’s family.

Caroline, and family – I haven’t seen Teddy in many years and I’m saddened by this news. Thoughts of Teddy, who I worked for at Laurentian and Gatchell, always make me smile. He used to ski with us and that was always good for a chuckle – as accomplished as he was in the water, he was never really good on the sticks!
You’ve been blessed to have this man with you for so many years and I extend my most sincere condolences to you for your loss – for the loss to all of us I should perhaps say.

Sincere condolences to Ted’s dear family and friends. I first met Ted many years ago when I worked summers for the City’s Parks and Rec department. He always had time for a chat whenever our paths have crossed since then. His big, bright, beautiful smile will truly be missed.

Caroline & Family: Teddy was a special individual who had an inner sense about people: He was kind, and fun loving and he will be missed dearly. I met Teddy on a beach where he was most comfortable. The aquatic community has lost a great man and his mark has been left with all of the individuals he trained and connected with aquatically. We are his people! My thoughts are with you Caroline.

Caroline and family, I am sad to hear of Ted’s passing. He was a great guy to work for at Gatchell pool and at waterfront. My memories of him are that he was slightly intimidating, always had a smile, and was always encouraging to the staff. I have wonderful memories of him.

All you have to do is say Teddy and smile comes to my face. What an amazing man, and I was so fortunate to have met him. The Society has lost a great mentor, who had a passion that did not quit. Thinking of his family and friends….thank you for sharing him with us. XXX

I have known Teddy for many years through the Lifesaving Society. His enthusiasm for all he did, and his willingness to share and help was such a strong light in him. He was kind, true and made such a difference to our industry. PRO Aquatics conference will not be the same with out him, his smile, hugs and of course him giving grace at dinner. Hug to you in Heaven, and my sincere condolences to his family.
