Falvo, Ernesto

December 15, 1936 – July 20, 2024

With deep sorrow, the Falvo family announces the passing of Ernesto Falvo on July 20, 2024, in Sudbury, Canada. Born on December 15, 1936, in Pedivigliano, Italy, Ernesto lived a full and impactful life defined by his integrity, dedication, and deep love for his family.

Ernesto is survived by his beloved wife, Carmela (née Anselmo), and their children: Peter (Mel), Roberto (Irma), Frank (David), and Rosie (Zach Efron). He was a proud nonno to Deanna, Victoria (Tim), Marissa, Alessandra (Bradley), and Sara (Josh), and nonno Ernie to great-grandson Milo. He is also survived by his sister, Giuseppina (Pina), of Milano, Italy.

After serving in the Italian Army, Ernesto immigrated to Canada in 1963 following his marriage to Carmela in Cosenza, Italy. He worked as an industrial painter and sandblaster, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and commitment to securing a better future for his family.

Ernesto found joy in tending to his garden, making wine, and preparing tomato sauce every fall. He was an animated storyteller who loved to reminisce about his youth in Italy. If you wanted to hear a good story, you only had to ask Ernesto a question. It is impossible to remember him without acknowledging his complete devotion to his family. He shared a uniquely beautiful bond with his wife Carmela and daughter Rosie. Affectionately known as 'the three amigos,' they were often seen together, always in sync, and dedicated to each other.

Ernesto loved to sing Italian songs from his past and spent his final days listening to the music of Claudio Villa. The family will be eternally grateful for the love and support through the years from his brother-in-law and wife, Mario and Helene Anselmo, sister-in-law, Julia Anselmo, and his many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

As per Ernesto's wishes, there will be no wake or funeral. Instead, the family will celebrate his life with joy and laughter at a future family gathering. Ernesto requested no flowers or traditional acknowledgments. Those wishing to honor his memory may make donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Sudbury in honor of his wife Carmela, or to the Down Syndrome Association of Sudbury in honor of his daughter Rosie.

Ernesto left his family a legacy of decency, honesty, and compassion, showing them how to face illness and death with profound dignity. He will be forever cherished by his family and friends.

  2. A note of condolence to Peter and Robbie: I was saddened to hear of the passing of your father. Having buried both my folks and my in-laws, I can understand how difficult these days are for you. It has been 36 years since I left Sudbury for the GTA; but I still check back on Sudbury.com to see names from the past that I might remember. I remember both of you as good students at SCC, fine young men, and superb athletes who would have made your folks proud by who you were and how you carried yourselves in the community. I will remember both of you in my prayers, and will pray for the repose of your Dad’s soul. Eternal rest grant unto him!
