Hooge, Patricia Ann (née Hamel)

With deep sorrow, the family announces the peaceful passing of Patricia Ann “Patsy” HOOGE (née Hamel), at home on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024, age 70, while surrounded by family and friends. After a nearly three year courageous battle with Stage 4 Lung Cancer, as per her wishes, this incredibly strong, determined woman, died with the remarkable services of MAiD. Thanks to Dr. Kaitlin Marie Sheridan and Nurse Chrissy, the Matriarch of the family took her last breath with dignity in her “happy place”- at home in the most beautiful and serene way imaginable.

Loving Wife of 48 years, and life partner of Garry “Tiny” Hooge, Pat was born in Sudbury, on Sept. 23,1953. She was the oldest daughter of Aurore (Therrien) Hamel and Ambroise “Zoune” Hamel - both predeceased. Guardian Big Sister to Jo-Ann David (husband Don), Larry Hamel, and Ann Hamel (partner Joe). Life long friends, and lovingly remembered by Claudia and Bernie Chamberland and all of their family.

Beautiful Daughter-in-law of Margaret & Ernest Hooge (both predeceased) and Sister-in-law of Gwen Cascanette - pd (husband Bernie), Marilynn Power (husband Bob) - both pd, Val Riley -pd (husband Ron), Cindy Michaud (husband Dan).

Loving Mother & Best Friend to Natalie (Hooge) Trapasso, and Pamela Del Ben (husband Andrew) of Sudbury. In their elementary school years, Pat was often a chaperone for her daughters’ school field trips. Pat grew up in the Flour Mill and babysat many of her younger cousins. She worked at Hudson Bay Wholesale in her younger years, then was later a mail clerk at the CRA. The family has enjoyed camping at Lot#139 Stanley Park Campgrounds, on Manitoulin Island for over 40 years! Pat is the cherished Memere to her four grandsons, her pride and joy, Jayden and Jacob Trapasso, Grayson and Callen Del Ben. Honorary “Memere” to Hailey (Abhi) & Sab Hamel, unforgettable “Matante” to Natasha, John & David Harper, Colin, Mel, Brock & Alyssa David, Derrek & Ella Hamel, Johnathan DaSilva, & Christa (predeceased). Also survived and sadly missed by many more cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

As per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury https://maisonsudburyhospice.org/ would be greatly appreciated. Special thanks to the wonderful Doctors & staff who took excellent care of her with her most recent health struggles. Notably, Dr. Pearce, Dr. Mocanu & staff/volunteers at the Northeast Cancer Centre, Dr. Crichton & Sarah Chrichton - NP, Dr. Larsen, Dr. Ewing-Bui, Dr. Falk, Fatima - RN, Guy - Pharmacist at Rexall Pharmacy on Lasalle, and the many PSWs who helped care for her. Much gratitude to Janice and all staff at Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services for your kindness, empathy and professionalism.

Pat referred to her cancer as The B*tch, and even though it started the battle, she was determined to win that war - which she did! She left us on her own terms, with comfort, pride and dignity. Thank you MAiD! Words can not express the gratitude that her family feels towards all who respected her wishes, supported her and made Mom’s last few days with us memorable, pain free, and special! We are eternally grateful for the comfort and renewed energy MAiD provided Pat in her final days. We were blessed to have our Wife/Mom/Memere/Pat back as we celebrated her life with her. You have earned your wings, you can now rest in peace.
