June 16, 1932 – July 12, 2024
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Lou Dotto, at the age of 92, at the Elizabeth Centre. Predeceased by his parents, Ignatius Louis Dotto and Helena Requena; his sisters Mary, Irene and Carmen. Survived by his youngest sister, Terry Wlodarczyk of Duncan, BC. Loving husband, for the last 38 years, of Bernadette (Savoie) Dotto of Val Caron. Four sons, from his first marriage to Romaine Chappell of Richmond, that always made him very proud: Laurie (Karen) of Richmond, Marty (Karen) of Arnprior, Tony (Melissa) of Tampa, FL and Dan (Elaine) of Niagara. He has six grand children and four great grand children plus many step-children, step-grand children and step-great grand children.
Lou was born on the ‘Rock of Gibraltar’ and due to WW2, his family had to evacuate as war refugees to Morocco, eventually settling in Liverpool England. In 1957, he immigrated to Canada to start a new life and a year later his wife and young sons came to join him in Toronto. In 1970 the family moved to Capreol. He was President of Minor Hockey in Capreol for many years where he introduced the 3-minute buzzer system for equal play time in the House leagues. Lou was an avid sports fan: soccer, hockey, baseball and tennis, which he played well into his 50’s. His favourite teams were the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. He loved fishing at his island camp on Birch Lake, picking blueberries and cooking his famous triple-garlic chowder soup. He was a man of faith who loved and served the Lord throughout his life, as Treasurer of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship group for some 20 years and being involved in Prison Ministry for over 15 years. He also held leadership roles as an active member of several churches in the Valley over the past 50 years.
Cremation has taken place, a Celebration of Life will take place at Valleyview Community Church, 2891 Martin Rd in Blezard Valley on Aug 2nd at 1pm. A reception will be held at this church following the service.
