Russell, Margaret Jane (née MacLennan)

It is with great sadness that we, as a family announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Jane Russell (née MacLennan), on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the age of 98. Predeceased by her husband Bazil Russell. She was born to the late Malcolm Hughie and the late Catherine Flore (Cassie) MacLennan on May 13, 1926, in Piper’s Glen, Cape Breton.

Margaret had 5 children: Wayne, Elwin (Joanne), Harvey (Romi), Ann (Bruce) and Alice.  She was also blessed with 8 grandchildren: Jennifer, Ashley, Amanda, Steven, Camas, Ryan, Melissa and Matthew and many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by all her 8 siblings, Mary, Malcolm, John, Charlie, Jim, ArchieDan, Donald A. and Christine.

Margaret grew up in the Scottish like hamlet only speaking Gaelic until starting school. Margaret had travelled in her youth. Moving to Boston for a year, then to Montreal. She worked as both a nanny and a hospital worker. She travelled to Sudbury where she met her late husband Bazil. They settled in Levack, ON and raised their family. Margaret was an active member of St. Bart catholic church, Golden Age Club of Onaping Falls and the Blue Bird coffee club.

There will be a private family memorial with date yet to be determined.
