Timm, Gail Sandra (née Dobson)

Gail Sandra Timm (née Dobson), born May 5, 1937, passed away peacefully at her home on October 7, 2024, at the age of 87, with her girls by her side.

Our mom will be joining her husband, and lifelong sweetheart, since their marriage in 1957, Harvey Timm (predeceased), in addition to her parents, Mary and William Dobson (predeceased). Our mom was one of four girls, born and raised in Cache Bay, with Dr. Lois Dobson (predeceased), Betty (predeceased) (Bernie Allary), and Mary Dobson.

Our mom was very proud of the cottage, that she and our dad began building in 1958 on Clear Lake (West Nipissing). It was their focus and pride and joy until buying their home on Main Street West in North Bay in May 1965, which became an equally special ‘Castle’ in their lives until October 2023.

Our parents enjoyed duck hunting and fishing, spending many vacations at their hunt camp on Lake Nipissing with our Aunt Betty and Uncle Bernie. Our memories of fishing on Lake Nipissing, or bird hunting in the 'limits' behind Field with mom and dad, were the most memorable of our lives, having lunch out of the 'magic green cooler'. Although our mom loved to travel, she would always say that there was nowhere else as beautiful as Ontario.

Our mother was an avid reader, often telling us she would read by candlelight or moonlight as a little girl, so no one knew; she was still reading a book a week leading up to her passing.

Our mom stayed home to raise her family until we were of school age. Investors Group was where she began her employment in 1976 and remained there for 20 years until retirement at age 60. Our mom was very proud of her employment, where she worked, what she learned, the co-workers that relied upon her day to day, and the friends that they all became.

Our mother battled cancer in 2019, and after her treatment ended in 2020, her health deteriorated; she often said she was walking 3 miles a day before treatment.

One of our mother's biggest joys in the last 3 years when her mobility made her house bound, was playing cards. Whenever we visited, her first question was 'do we have time for a game?'. A heartfelt thanks goes out to her nieces Gail and Meredith who checked in, visited, played cards, and just spent time with her while at the cottage, in the weeks she was on her own in the summer months.

Our mother was a loving, caring, and generous person, even though she lived her life with a 'stiff upper lip'. Our mom was always our support person in times of need, never judging what you were going through, or the decisions you had made, but there to help pick you up, dust you off, and get you moving forward again. Our mom was the toughest, bravest person these last few years, struggling with pain daily, never sharing what she was feeling, and never giving up. We were so thankful that her last moments were peaceful, and that we there to hold her.

Our mother donated for 30 years to Covenant House Toronto, The Canadian Wildlife Federation, and the Cancer Research Society, and so donations to these agencies would please her, though she often said of other agencies 'they are all good causes'.

A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date.
