(November 4, 1961 - January 2, 2024)
It is with heart-wrenching sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Alan Veldhuyzen. With an enormous heart, a gentle soul, and a dash of mischievous wit, Alan touched everyone he met in a special way. Steadfast & unwavering, Alan rose above his courageous battle with cancer. He enjoyed helping others and spent many hours volunteering at the Hospital; from taking patients to their treatments and helping out in the Biomedical lab. His smile was infectious regardless of what he was struggling with.
Alan truly enjoyed his time at House Four, and all of the many friends he made there. He spent his days helping others whenever possible. He was always grateful. He loved his independence, reminiscing about his summers spent at Biscoe as a youth, mischievous deeds, telling jokes and making endless one-liners. He cared deeply for his family.
Alan's memory will live on in the hearts of his siblings; Mary Anne & Jack, his nieces and nephews, his godson, Aunts and Uncles, cousins, and many others.
Special thanks to his lifelong friend Bonnie, who was nothing short of a bright light in his life, the staff at Christian Horizon House 4, and all his medical staff.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan's memory may be made directly to the Karis Disability Services (formerly Christian Horizon) Sudbury 4 (26 Peppler Street, Waterloo, Ontario, N2J 3C4) or to the Maison McCulloch Hospice, Sudbury would be greatly appreciated.
We are sad to hear about Alan’s passing and will always remember him. With his wit and jokes: See you later, alligator…. Not too soon Mr. Baboon!
